Home Renovation in Richmond

Richmond's centre is Georgian: the Green, the Hill and the streets around them hold some of the best-preserved eighteenth-century housing in London, much of it listed and nearly all of it in a conservation area with a protected view over the river. Around that core are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, twentieth-century family houses towards Kew and East Sheen, and riverside properties whose ground floors sit in the tidal flood plain.

Two constraints do most of the work here. The first is heritage: on the Hill and the Green, elevations, windows, roofs and even boundary walls are controlled, and internal alterations to listed houses need consent in their own right. The second is water: near the river, flood resilience is a design requirement — raised services, resilient finishes and flood-resistant construction below the design level — not an afterthought.
