Family houses with room to work: Edwardian streets built for space, the listed Arts-and-Crafts houses of Bedford Park, and the riverside conversions along Strand on the Green.

Renovating property in Chiswick
Chiswick was built later and more generously than the inner-west terraces. The grid between Chiswick High Road and the river is largely Edwardian — bay-fronted houses with wide hallways, generous rear gardens and rooms that take a family without being carved up. To the north, Bedford Park is the original garden suburb: Norman Shaw's red-brick Arts-and-Crafts houses, hundreds of them listed, on streets that are protected as a whole. Along the river, Strand on the Green and Grove Park bring cottages, conversions and flood-zone considerations.
That mix produces two quite different jobs. In the Edwardian streets the work is expansive: side-return and full-width rear extensions, loft conversions with dormers set back from the street, and whole-house refurbishments that finally rationalise the plumbing. In Bedford Park it is the opposite — tile-hung elevations, original casements and internal joinery all need consent and a repair-first approach, and what looks like a small alteration is often the one that needs the most paperwork.
We work in both. Our extensions and loft conversions cover the family-house end; period property renovation covers the listed streets, where the point is to leave the house looking as though nothing happened to it.
